Several Raijor Dal members who gathered in front of Janata Bhawan in Dispur on October 20 to demand justice for Assam’s music icon Zubeen Garg were detained by police amid a heavy security presence.
The party members had assembled for a human chain protest called by Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, seeking justice in connection with the singer’s death.
Ahead of the programme, Gogoi had expressed hope that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would allow the protest to proceed without obstruction and accept a memorandum from the participants.
Security was heightened in the area as the protesters gathered outside Janata Bhawan. Several party members were detained during the protest.
The demonstration comes amid continued public demands for accountability in the case relating to Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore on September 19, 2025.
Further details regarding the number of people detained and the police’s reasons for detaining them were not immediately available.
