Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak on July 12, visited flood-affected villages in Koyu Circle of Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Siang district to assess the extensive damage caused by recent flash floods and announced an interim relief of Rs 7 lakh for the affected people.
Tagak was accompanied by Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu, district officials, and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representatives during his visit to the flood-ravaged areas.
The MP toured several affected villages under Koyu Circle and interacted with residents who have been impacted by the floods. According to officials, nearly 20 villages in the circle have suffered widespread damage, with the flash floods leaving a trail of destruction.
Speaking to the media, Tagak said he would urge the Centre to sanction a special financial package for the flood-hit Nari-Koyu Assembly constituency to support relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.
As an immediate measure, the Rajya Sabha MP announced a donation of Rs 7 lakh as interim relief for the affected people of the constituency.
Expressing concern over the scale of devastation, Tagak said he would also request Arunachal Pradesh's two Lok Sabha MPs, Tapir Gao and Kiren Rijiju, along with Members of Parliament from neighbouring Assam, to jointly approach the Union government and seek maximum financial assistance for the flood-affected region.
Several parts of Arunachal Pradesh have witnessed heavy rainfall and flash floods in recent weeks, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, agricultural land, and homes, while disrupting normal life in several districts.
