Senior RSS leader Ram Madhav has underlined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s newly announced mission on border demography puts Assam at the heart of the national security and identity debate.
Speaking in Guwahati, Madhav said that successive governments since the 1990s had acknowledged the demographic challenges in India’s border states but failed to act decisively.
“This is a matter which has been agreed to by every political party, that India faced certain demographic challenges in border areas. The Communist Party was also part of a government that admitted this reality. But nobody had the guts to tackle it,” Madhav said.
He argued that Assam and other northeastern states have suffered enormously due to unchecked illegal infiltration. “Everybody knows BJP’s clear view on illegal infiltrators. That is why we conducted the NRC in Assam, to identify and ensure such people are sent back to their home countries. What the Prime Minister has now done is to give institutional shape to this effort through a new mission,” he added.

Madhav stressed that protecting India’s demography is protecting its destiny. “PM Modi has said demography is destiny. Assam, Bengal and other border states need special focus to preserve their identity and security,” he said.
On the Assamese versions of his two books, “The New World: 21st Century Global Order” and “Our Constitution, Our Pride”, senior RSS leader Ram Madhav says, "India's Constitution completed 75 years last year. This entire year, we celebrated as the Year of India's Constitution. PM Modi has given that call. Constitution is a live document, most respected document for every citizen of the country. So, I authored a book, trying to explain the journey of our Constitution-making. I emphasised that despite so many controversies surrounding our Constitution, or the journey in last 75 years, it has done service to our country, it kept our country as one, it gave the sense of citizenship to every Indian. So, every Indian must respect the Constitution irrespective of whatever views one has about it. Occasionally, controversies are raised unnecessarily, blaming somebody of not respecting the Constitution. I would like to say that every Indian respects the Constitution and every Indian must respect the Constitution."
