Post-death rituals for Riya Talukdar, wife of accused Ramanuj Goswami, were disrupted in Gauripur town of Assam’s Dhubri district on Monday, September 14, following reports that Goswami had allegedly died while attempting to flee from police custody.
The incident occurred at Ward No. 10, where Riya Talukdar’s in-laws, Ramanuj Goswami's family were conducting her "Adya Shraddha", a Hindu post-death ritual. The ceremony was interrupted after the news regarding Goswami reached the residence, triggering panic and distress among family members.
Goswami’s father, visibly distressed, told people outside the residence, “My son has been encountered; everything is over now. Please do not come inside.”
Following the report, the family shut the main entrance of the house and prevented journalists and other outsiders from entering the premises.
The sudden developments also brought the religious ceremony to a halt. The priest conducting the Adya Shraddha reportedly left the premises midway, leaving the rituals incomplete.
Further details regarding the circumstances of Goswami's death is still awaited.
