Residents of Margherita town and nearby areas staged a road blockade on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border road on Tuesday night, demanding urgent repairs to the severely dilapidated route connecting Margherita in Assam to Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh.
The road, which serves as the only link between the two regions, has been in disrepair for an extended period, making it nearly unfit for traffic. Despite numerous complaints and appeals by locals, authorities have not addressed the issue, leaving the residents frustrated and angry.
The blockade brought traffic to a standstill until midnight, as protesters gathered to voice their grievances against the Margherita police and Co-District Commissioner. The protest ended when officials from the Margherita Co-District administration arrived at the site and assured the residents that immediate action would be taken to resolve the matter.
The locals have reiterated their demand for urgent road repairs, emphasizing that the condition of the road has become a major obstacle to daily commutes and transportation. The assurance from authorities has temporarily pacified the protesters, but they insist on timely action to avoid further demonstrations.
