Tension gripped Assam’s Morigaon district after a civilian, identified as Bulen Deuri, was fatally hit by a police vehicle allegedly driven by Tapan Talukdar, the in-charge (IC) of Jaluguhti Police Outpost. The tragic incident unfolded in full view of the victim's son, sparking public outrage.
According to eyewitnesses, the Thar SUV, bearing registration number AS01 FU 7707 and allegedly being driven at high speed by officer Talukdar, struck Deuri with force, leading to his immediate death. In a shocking turn, the officer is said to have fled the scene without rendering any assistance.
The fatal accident triggered angry protests from local residents, who blocked the Morigaon-Nagaon state highway at Lochanabari. Agitated crowds left Deuri's body on the road, demanding justice and the immediate arrest of the officer involved.
In response to the escalating tension, senior officials from Morigaon Police and a magistrate arrived at the protest site to pacify the agitated public. Fearing further deterioration of law and order, additional police personnel were deployed across the area as a preventive measure.
