Tension prevailed in Assam's Sribhumi district on July 17 as members of the Sanatani Aikya Manch staged a massive protest demanding the immediate arrest of the prime accused in the alleged assault on two Hindu youths earlier this month.
The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the district administration, urging swift action against all those involved in the incident.
The protest follows the alleged attack on Biswajit Das and Samrat Nag on July 12, in which the two youths were seriously injured in what protesters described as a group assault. Following the incident, local residents had staged demonstrations outside the Longai Outpost, demanding justice.
Police have so far arrested three persons in connection with the case. However, members of the Sanatani Aikya Manch alleged that the main accused remains at large, prompting Friday's demonstration.
The organisation further claimed that there has been a rise in attacks on Hindu youths in Sribhumi district in recent months and alleged that the administration has failed to take stringent action against those responsible, leading to growing public resentment.
Hundreds of men and women participated in the protest march, raising slogans and demanding exemplary punishment for all those involved in the assault.
The demonstration concluded with the submission of a memorandum to the district administration, seeking the immediate arrest of the remaining accused and urging authorities to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
