Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, on September 19 took oath as an ex-officio member of Margherita Municipal Board.
Sonowal who is also the Member of Parliament for Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency, expressed pride and exalted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's effort in boosting the country's economy.
He said that it is a proud moment for him to take the oath as a member of the ex-officio at the Margherita Municipal Board, further adding that India has become a Biswaguru (world leader) under PM Modi's leadership with many development initiatives taking place. "In the coming days, our country will become the 5th largest economy in the world," he said.
The Union minister was accompanied by Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Margherita Municipal Board Chairman Anand Kumar Sharma, ward commissioners of Margherita Municipal Board, members of BJP Margherita Sadar, block and town mandals including hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party members at the ceremony which was held at Margherita Municipal Board conference hall.
Later during the day, Sonowal carried out a cleanliness drive at Margherita Chariali where he also planted saplings.
Earlier in July, Sonowal was sworn in as the ex-officio members of Digbai and Makum municipalities.
