Police in Moran, Dibrugarh district, have arrested a 28-year-old school transport driver accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old disabled student over multiple days.
Mustak Ahmed, also known as San, from Kiran Nagar Maut village, was apprehended in Naharkatia following a complaint filed by the victim's family at Moran police station. The Class 10 student, who has a disability, had been using Ahmed's e-rickshaw service to travel to school daily.
According to police, Ahmed switched from using his e-rickshaw to a private car approximately one week ago. Rather than taking the girl directly home after school, he allegedly drove her to undisclosed locations where the assaults occurred. The victim's family became aware of the situation and immediately reported it to authorities.
Moran police station in-charge Dantejit Dewri and Sub-Inspector Manashjyoti Pathak registered Case No. 01/2026 under Section 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, in conjunction with Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Officers launched a manhunt for Ahmed, successfully locating and arresting him on the evening of 4 January. Police also seized his Bolero vehicle, registration number AS06AK 3199.
Ahmed was presented before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody at Dibrugarh jail on January 4.
The case has triggered widespread concern amongst parents in the area, raising questions about the safety measures in place for school transport services, particularly for vulnerable children.
