On the second day of questioning by the Assam Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami appeared at the CID office, expressing his resolve for justice for the late artist, whom he described as a brother.
Goswami, who was present on the yacht during the incident in Singapore on September 19, was summoned in connection with the ongoing investigation following murder allegations filed by Zubeen Garg’s family. Speaking to the media, Goswami stated, “The investigation is at a crucial juncture, and I will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure justice for Zubeen Da.”
On Saturday, September 27 Assamese actor Nishita Goswami and musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami along with singer Amritprabha Mahanta appeared before the Assam CID as part of the probe into the singer’s death.
The probe has intensified in recent days. On September 25, a combined team of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and CID conducted raids at the residences of Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta in Guwahati. The raids resulted in the seizure of pendrives, a hard disk, a computer CPU, various documents, and other relevant materials.
Shyamkanu Mahanta, the main organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore, had arranged Zubeen’s participation in the event. His residence was also searched on September 25 under the direction of SIT Chief Investigation Officer Rosie Kalita.
Zubeen Garg, a cultural icon of Assam, passed away in Singapore on September 19 following an alleged drowning incident during the Northeast India Festival. His body was flown to Delhi before being transported to Guwahati, where thousands gathered to pay their respects. His final rites on September 23 at Kamarkuchi village included a gun salute and the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, family members, and numerous political leaders.
