Demanding the protection of one of Sivasagar's historic landmarks, the All Tai Ahom Students' Union (ATASU) has intensified its campaign against alleged illegal encroachments at historic Jamuna, continuing its protest and eviction drive for the second consecutive day.
ATASU members returned to the site in large numbers on October 30, pressing for the immediate removal of alleged encroachments and restoration of the historic site's original character.
The organisation has expressed concern over the growing encroachment of Jamuna, stating that illegal occupation poses a threat to its historical identity and existence.
Raising the issue of heritage conservation, ATASU has demanded that the entire area be freed from encroachments to ensure that the historical significance of Jamuna is preserved.
The organisation maintained that protecting Jamuna is not merely about removing illegal structures but also about safeguarding an important part of Sivasagar's historical and cultural legacy.
The issue has sparked wider discussion in Sivasagar, with the preservation of the historic site emerging as a matter of public concern. ATASU has urged the authorities to intervene and take necessary steps to protect Jamuna from further encroachment.
