A suspected spray-and-loot robbery has sent shockwaves through Assam's Nagaon district after unidentified miscreants allegedly rendered members of a family unconscious before decamping with cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from their home in Borhisa village under Batadrava.
According to local sources, the accused allegedly sprayed an unknown substance inside the house, leaving the occupants unconscious before carrying out the theft.
Three family members—Haren Bora, Anima Bora and Prashanta Bora—fell seriously ill following the incident and were admitted to a hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
The incident has taken a more disturbing turn after a woman from the house was reportedly found unclothed by local residents after the robbery. Locals have expressed apprehension that she may have been sexually assaulted. However, there has been no official confirmation of any sexual assault, and the exact circumstances are under investigation.
Police from Batadrava Police Station reached the spot after being informed and have launched an investigation into the incident.
The alleged robbery has heightened concerns over law and order in the area, with residents pointing out that several thefts have been reported in the vicinity of Batadrava Police Station over the past week.
Police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm the sequence of events. Investigation is underway.
