Students repair cratered road in Assam's Tingkhang, give administration 10-day ultimatum

Members of the Tingkhang Regional Students Union took up road repair work themselves at Fetengibari Tini Ali on the Moran–Naharkatia connecting road after alleging prolonged government inaction over its deteriorating condition.

The stretch, a key route connecting educational institutions, markets and nearby villages, has remained in a severely damaged state for nearly one and a half years. Large potholes filled with rainwater have made the road resemble a pond, causing daily inconvenience to commuters and posing a serious accident risk.

Local residents and traders alleged that the absence of a proper drainage system has led to persistent waterlogging, with rainwater entering shops and causing financial losses to business owners.

Expressing frustration over the lack of official intervention, members of the students union used shovels and other tools to temporarily fill the potholes, saying they were compelled to act as the authorities had failed to address the issue.

The Tingkhang Regional Students' Union has given the administration a 10-day deadline to undertake a scientific repair of the road, including the construction of an adequate drainage system. The organisation warned that if no action is taken within the stipulated period, it will launch a larger public agitation with the support of local residents.
