Preparations are in full swing for the first annual Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebration, scheduled to be held on January 30 and 31 at the newly constructed Inthem Nagapathar Chow-Cheng-Ran premises under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency in Tinsukia district.
Men and women from the area have been working tirelessly, day and night, to ensure the successful conduct of the two-day event. Members of the Tai Ahom community from the three villages of Nagapathar, Ulup and Long Gaon have come together to jointly organise the celebration, reflecting strong community participation and unity.
Addressing a press conference on January 16, members of the organising committee said that Me-Dam-Me-Phi is an important ancestral worship observed by the Tai Ahom community, during which prayers are offered to forefathers every year on January 31 across Assam.
The organisers also expressed their commitment to continue celebrating Me-Dam-Me-Phi collectively in the coming years, preserving the community’s rich cultural traditions and passing them on to future generations.
The upcoming celebration at Nagapathar is expected to witness participation from a large number of devotees and cultural enthusiasts, marking a significant cultural event in the region.
