Tai Ahom community to celebrate Poi-Fura-Lung-Mung-Sun-Khaam convention and Kon Seng silver jubilee at Assam's Margherita

The Tai Ahom community of Margherita Co-District is set to celebrate the Poi-Fura-Lung-Mung-Sun-Khaam Centrally Full-Fledged Convention along with the Kon Seng Silver Jubilee Jayanti Divas at Ulup Chow Cheng Ren Playground in Ulup under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency in Tinsukia district from March 3 to 5.
As part of the preparations, the Poi-Fura-Lung-Mung-Dun-Sun-Khaam Central Executive Committee on February 12, organised a Banfi Puja and erected the Lai Khuta at the Ulup Chow Cheng Ren Playground.
Chow Rubul Phukan and Chow Jayanta Dehing, President and General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee respectively, informed that on March 5, 2000, the local Tai Ahom community carved a Kong (big drum) from a nearby tree and established it at the same playground. Since then, Kong Cheng Divas has been celebrated annually to commemorate the occasion.
The three-day programme will feature a cultural rally, ethnic food stalls, a book fair, Tai cultural festival, sports competitions, an open session and a felicitation ceremony. Prominent personalities and resource persons from the Tai Ahom community across Assam are expected to participate. More than 50,000 people are likely to attend the event in large numbers, said Chow Rubul Phukan.
Several dignitaries, including Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Union Minister Pabitra Margherita, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma and other ministers and MLAs, are expected to attend the three-day celebration.
