A female teacher has lodged a formal complaint against the Headmaster of Kenduguri Janajati High School in Assam’s Hojai district, accusing him of stalking, harassment, and physical assault on her husband within the school premises.
According to the complaint filed at Hojai Police Station, Bharati Gupta, a teacher appointed at the school on December 24, 2025, alleged that the Headmaster, identified as Indrapal Gowala, subjected her to repeated and unwanted phone calls and messages without any official purpose. She further alleged that he persistently insisted on dropping her home against her will and closely monitored her movements, including enquiring whether she was alone.
The complainant stated that the alleged harassment continued from the very beginning of her appointment, causing mental distress and fear. Matters reportedly escalated on January 30, when Mrs. Gupta visited the school accompanied by her husband, Abhijit Deb, to seek clarification from the Headmaster regarding his conduct.
“As per the complaint, the situation turned violent during the interaction, with the Headmaster allegedly becoming aggressive and physically assaulting her husband, punching him on the head and face, dragging him outside the office, and forcefully knocking him to the ground,” the FIR states. The husband reportedly sustained injuries in the incident. The complainant also alleged that the Headmaster chased her during the scuffle in an attempt to attack her.
Mrs. Gupta has described the incident as a grave threat to the safety and dignity of working women, particularly within the school environment, calling for urgent legal intervention.
The complaint further notes that the teacher had previously submitted written complaints regarding the alleged harassment to the Inspector of Schools, Hojai, on January 6, and to the District Commissioner, Hojai, on January 7. However, she claimed no effective action was taken prior to the incident.
Police officials confirmed that the complaint has been received and said that the matter is under investigation. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings, officials added.
