Unidentified thieves allegedly broke into a school in Assam's Tinsukia district and decamped with ceiling fans and electrical fittings, triggering concern among residents over a spate of thefts in the Ledo area.
The incident took place at Udayan Jatiyo Vidyalaya in Ledo, under the Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency, on Wednesday night, July 1.
According to school authorities, the miscreants entered the school premises by forcing open the doors and windows before stealing five ceiling fans and several electric lights.
The thieves also allegedly vandalised the school's electrical infrastructure by cutting wires, damaging switches and scattering fan blades inside the building before fleeing.
School teachers said the incident has disrupted the school's functioning and caused damage to its infrastructure.
The theft comes barely a week after a similar incident was reported at Sankardev High School in Ledo. Although police had arrested the accused in that case, the latest burglary has raised fresh concerns among residents over security in the area.
Locals have urged the Margherita Police and the Margherita Co-District administration to intensify night patrols and strengthen security measures to prevent recurring thefts.
Police are investigating the incident and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
