Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Member of Parliament Manoj Jha has strongly criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his recent remarks against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, stating that such language reflects a growing trend of treating political competitors as enemies.
Speaking to the media, Jha said, “If something has drastically changed in this country in the last 10–12 years, it is the mindset where the opposition is no longer seen as competitors, but as enemies. The language used is no longer political—it is adversarial, and that is deeply concerning.”
He condemned Sarma’s comments as inappropriate and uncalled for, especially when directed at a democratically elected Member of Parliament. “How can you make such remarks against an elected representative?” Jha questioned, urging for greater political maturity.
He added that such rhetoric not only undermines the spirit of democracy but also draws scrutiny from the international community. “Other countries across the world are also watching us. You should keep your political competition within Assam and engage in a democratic fight. Personal attacks and below-the-belt remarks fall into the category of political misconduct, even crime,” Jha stated.
The RJD leader’s remarks come amid a sharp political exchange between Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, with opposition leaders accusing the ruling party of consistently resorting to personal attacks in place of constructive debate.
