Three children drown after falling into water-filled pit in Assam’s Goalpara

Three children lost their lives after accidentally falling into a water-filled pit in Assam’s Goalpara district on Saturday, February 14 afternoon. The incident occurred at No. 1 Camp in the Matia area, casting a pall of gloom over the locality.
According to local sources, the children were playing near Sidli Beel when they reportedly slipped and fell into a nearby waterlogged pit. Despite immediate efforts, the three minors could not be rescued in time.
The deceased have been identified as Janti Changma (5) and Neha Changma (3), children of Jayanta Hajong, and Ayus Marak (3), son of Karmeshwar Hajong. While two of the victims belonged to the same family, the third child was from another household in the same locality.
The sudden and tragic deaths of the three children have left residents of No. 1 Camp in deep shock and mourning. Locals have expressed concern over the presence of unprotected water-filled pits in the area, demanding preventive measures to avert such accidents in the future.
Authorities are expected to initiate an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
