Three injured as school bus, goods vehicle collide in Assam's Bokakhat

Three people, including a student and two teachers, were injured after a school bus collided head-on with a goods-carrying DI vehicle in Assam's Bokakhat area on the morning of August 27.

The accident took place in Lakhowjan when a bus operated by Christ Jyoti Vidyalaya, bearing registration number AS05B 6622, was travelling from Numaligarh towards Bokakhat. The DI vehicle, registered as AS01UC 0373, was heading from Nagaon towards Jorhat.

The school bus was carrying students and teachers to the school when the collision occurred. According to preliminary reports, the DI vehicle was allegedly travelling at high speed and crashed into the bus while attempting to overtake another vehicle.

The impact damaged both vehicles and left a female student and two teachers injured. They were taken for medical treatment following the accident.

Traffic police reached the spot after being alerted and began taking stock of the situation. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the collision, including the circumstances surrounding the DI vehicle's alleged overtaking manoeuvre.

The extent of the damage to both vehicles is also being assessed.
