Three injured, including traffic policeman, in suspected drunk-driving crash in Assam's Silchar

Three people, including a traffic policeman, were seriously injured after a speeding WagonR allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver hit a scooter, the on-duty traffic policeman and a pedestrian at the Sadarghat point in Silchar.

According to reports, the WagonR was travelling at high speed from the Rangpur side when it first hit a scooter at the Sadarghat point, seriously injuring the scooter rider. The vehicle then went out of control and hit a traffic policeman on duty and a pedestrian.

All three injured persons were rushed to a hospital for treatment. The condition of the injured traffic policeman was reported to be critical.

After the accident, the driver allegedly attempted to flee the spot with the vehicle. However, local residents and police managed to intercept and detain him along with the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Santosh Ravidas, a resident of the Tarapur Ukil Bazar area of Silchar.

Local residents alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol when he was driving, leading to the accident.
