Three liquor outlets are allegedly operating illegally next to the boundary wall of New Amolapatty Girls’ Primary School in Assam's Dibrugarh, raising concerns over the presence of an unauthorised liquor trade near an educational institution and places of worship.
The outlets are located in a busy part of the city, with a historic Hanuman temple situated directly opposite the school. A mosque, another temple and a dargah are also located within the vicinity.
According to allegations, the establishments sell both country-made and Indian-made foreign liquor from morning until late at night. One of the outlets reportedly operates under the appearance of a paan shop, while a blue curtain at the entrance allegedly conceals the liquor trade taking place inside.
The premises are also said to have benches, tables and snacks, allowing customers to consume liquor on site. Different quantities of liquor are reportedly available for purchase.
The alleged operation has raised questions about enforcement, particularly given its proximity to a primary school. Police personnel and other commuters reportedly pass through the area regularly, but the outlets are alleged to have continued operating for years.
There are also allegations that the police and Excise Department have failed to take sustained action against the establishments. Claims that the illegal trade has affected the local environment and contributed to law-and-order concerns have further added to the issue.
