A heartbreaking story from Nangal Dhowa village in Assam's Rupahihat has drawn attention to the plight of a family battling extreme hardship after three siblings lost their eyesight at a young age.
The family, headed by a widowed mother, is facing immense challenges as all three of her children suffer from visual impairment, casting uncertainty over their future. According to the mother, the children began experiencing vision loss when they were around eight to nine years old.
Following the untimely death of her husband, the woman has been single-handedly supporting the family by working as a cook at a local school. However, her modest monthly income is barely enough to meet the family's daily needs, let alone cover the cost of specialised medical treatment for her children.
In an emotional appeal, the mother has sought financial assistance from the Assam government, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the general public to help provide proper medical care for her children and improve their quality of life.
The family's situation has sparked sympathy among local residents, with many calling for support from charitable organisations, social groups and well-wishers.
