A heartwarming video shared by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has brought fresh attention to the unique bond between the people of Tinsukia's Barekuri and the endangered Western Hoolock Gibbon.
The video, uploaded by the Chief Minister on his official Facebook page, shows Dipti Bora of Tarajan village feeding bananas to hoolock gibbons that regularly visit the locality.
Speaking about the animals, Dipti Bora said she treats and cares for the gibbons like her own children. The clip reflects the deep affection and coexistence shared between the villagers and the primates in the area.
Residents of Barekuri have long been known for protecting the hoolock gibbons and preserving their natural habitat by maintaining a green environment and planting fruit-bearing trees for the animals.
The village has become a notable example of human-animal coexistence, where hoolock gibbons freely move around near residential areas and are cared for by locals with compassion and responsibility.
