The Bongaigaon police have arrested two men traffickers, identified as Abdul Rahim and Zohar Uddin Poddar, in a case involving the trafficking of minor girls. The incident came to light after a young girl was lured under the pretext of marriage and taken to Haryana, where she was reportedly sold for just Rs 60,000.
Authorities said that trafficking cases have become increasingly prevalent in the state, with women traffickers continuing their operations despite repeated police crackdowns. In this instance, the Bongaigaon Jogighopa police successfully apprehended Abdul Rahim from Jogighopa and Zohar Uddin Poddar from Dhubri, following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family.
Investigations revealed that the traffickers had been targeting girls from poor families for a long time, promising marriage to lure them into the human trafficking network.
A case has been registered at Jogighopa police station under Sections 87/143 of the Indian Penal Code, Case No. 31/26, and further investigations are underway. The police continue to probe the network to ensure that all involved are brought to justice.
