Unidentified youth dies after brutal late-night assault on Silchar’s Chengkuri road, CCTV shows four attackers

An unidentified youth who was found lying in a pool of blood late February 26 night at Netaji Pally Lane on Chengkuri Road in Silchar succumbed to his injuries at hospital, triggering panic and anger in the locality. CCTV footage allegedly showing four miscreants attacking the youth has added to the shock surrounding the incident.

The sensational incident occurred in Ward No. 19 of Silchar when residents were alerted by a loud noise around midnight. Locals rushed out of their homes and found a young man lying severely injured on the road, struggling for life. Residents said the victim was conscious at the time and the police were immediately informed.

Following the alert, police and an ambulance reached the spot and rushed the critically injured youth to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. However, according to sources, the youth died during treatment. His identity remains unknown, and locals claimed he was not from the area, with no one able to ascertain where he came from or why he was there.

While the exact motive behind the attack is yet to be established, residents alleged that CCTV footage from the area shows four assailants brutally assaulting the victim before fleeing the scene. On Friday morning, a forensic team from the police department visited the spot, collected samples and began a detailed investigation.

Anger has been brewing among residents, some of whom alleged that a delay in the arrival of the ambulance may have cost the youth his life. They have demanded swift identification and arrest of those involved, along with strict legal action.

The gruesome incident in the busy Chengkuri Road–Netaji Pally area has sparked widespread outrage and fear among locals. Police said a thorough probe is underway and assured that all angles of the case are being examined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
