On the occasion of Goru Bihu, a unique and culturally rich celebration was witnessed at a school in Assam’s Kaliabor, where students and teachers came together to observe the traditions of Rongali Bihu within the school premises.
In a refreshing departure from routine academic activities, the students and faculty of Ayush Public School celebrated the festival by performing traditional rituals associated with Goru Bihu. Cattle were ceremonially bathed using a mixture of black gram and turmeric, in line with age-old customs.
Marking the essence of the festival, students also followed the tradition of seeking blessings from their elders. Reflecting this practice, the young learners were seen respectfully receiving blessings from their teachers, symbolising the cultural bond between generations.
The initiative by the school authorities stands out as a thoughtful effort to preserve and promote Assamese cultural heritage among the younger generation. With increasing academic pressures and modern influences, such celebrations aim to ensure that students remain connected to their roots and do not lose touch with traditional values.
By demonstrating rituals like the ceremonial bathing of cattle and the practice of seeking blessings, the school created an engaging, experiential learning environment—bringing textbooks to life while reinforcing the importance of cultural continuity.
The celebration at Ayush Public School serves as a model for integrating tradition with education, ensuring that the spirit of Rongali Bihu continues to thrive among the youth.
