Former MLA and ex-Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Jagat Sing Engti, has levelled serious allegations against the KAAC for allegedly delaying the appointment process of candidates who have cleared the Sixth Schedule Special Teacher Eligibility Test (SSS-TET).
Speaking at a press conference held at the District Congress Committee office in Diphu, Engti sharply criticised the KAAC Education Department and its Chief Executive Member (CEM), Tuliram Ronghang, for what he described as an intentional and unacceptable delay in publishing advertisements and initiating the appointment process.
“If BTC and Dima Hasao can appoint SSS-TET-qualified teachers, why is KAAC dragging its feet?” Engti questioned. He stated that both the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) have already issued appointment letters to SSS-TET pass-outs, while KAAC continues to ignore the plight of eligible candidates in Karbi Anglong.
Highlighting the frustration and growing impatience among unemployed qualified youths, Engti warned that any protest or agitation sparked by this issue would be the sole responsibility of Tuliram Ronghang and the KAAC leadership. “The candidates are losing hope. The KAAC must act now before the situation spirals out of control,” he asserted.

Engti also pointed out the dire condition of education in the hill district, stating that many lower primary schools are functioning with only one teacher, while middle schools suffer from an acute shortage of teaching staff. He dismissed Ronghang’s frequent public claims of promoting quality education as hollow and misleading.
“Where is the quality in education when schools are understaffed and teachers are waiting endlessly for appointments?” Engti asked, holding the current KAAC leadership directly responsible for the stagnation in teacher recruitment.
He concluded by urging the KAAC to immediately issue advertisements and start the appointment process for SSS-TET-qualified candidates to prevent further unrest.
Jagat Sing Engti was accompanied at the press meet by former Executive Member and senior Congress Vice President Raton Engti, along with other Congress workers.
