Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a striking claim that he will soon disclose the identity of a 'body double' allegedly used by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam.
Giving an update on cases registered in Assam with regards to Rahul Gandhi's yatra, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Two cases have been registered...for the Guwahati case, we have created a SIT and the SIT is working. We have identified the 'body double' which was used by Rahul Gandhi during the pada yatra...so once PM Modi goes back from Assam, I will brief the presser. We have now confirmed that for most of the road, Rahul was not cheering the crowd but his 'body double' was cheering the crowd...and after the controversy, the 'body double' was quite left from Guwahati without accompanying him (Rahul Gandhi) to the leg of yatra. After India Today NE exposed...I have not exposed anything...after they (India Today NE) uploaded the photograph, the person quietly left Assam from Guwahati airport directly to Delhi without accompanying him to the last leg which re-confirm my allegation."
Further speaking about the Jorhat case, Assam CM said that the case is been investigated in the normal way and the 'body double' part will be revealed after PM Modi leaves Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on January 25 that India Today NE has uncovered a startling revelation regarding Rahul Gandhi's recent bus journey during the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Assam.
According to Sarma, India Today NE suggested that Rahul Gandhi may have been using a "body double" during the journey, raising questions about the authenticity of his presence.
India Today NE posted on January 22 on the microblogging site X, questioning whether Rahul Gandhi's body double was part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
During a press conference, Himanta Biswa Sarma warned Rahul Gandhi, saying, "Listen Rahul Gandhi, the way you have insulted Assam, you are going to get fewer seats than 2019 in the Lok Sabha elections in Assam."
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which passed through Assam from January 18 to 25, was marked by a clash between Congress workers and state police due to the denial of permission for the rally to enter Guwahati via its main routes. This led to a confrontation when the yatra was directed to use the Guwahati bypass instead. An FIR was subsequently registered against Rahul Gandhi, which has now been transferred to the Assam CID.
During the yatra's journey through Assam, a war of words ensued between Rahul Gandhi and Himanta Sarma, with Gandhi labeling Sarma as "the most corrupt Chief Minister of India." Sarma's forthcoming revelation about the alleged body double has added another layer to their political rivalry. The date of the articles reporting these events is January 28th, 2024.
