Woman allegedly burnt to death by husband in Assam’s Bongaigaon; accused absconding

A shocking incident has come to light from Ikrarbari area in Bongaigaon district of Assam, where a man allegedly murdered his wife and later burnt the body near his betel nut plantation.
According to local sources, the accused identified as Krishna Mondal allegedly killed his wife Durga Sarkar three days ago before attempting to destroy evidence by setting the body on fire near his areca nut garden.
Neighbours reportedly noticed the fire and questioned him, to which he allegedly claimed that a dead cow was being burnt.
The incident came to light on April 30 after Durga Sarkar’s brother began searching for his missing sister.
During the search, family members and locals reportedly recovered bangles and a ring belonging to the deceased from the site where the body was allegedly burnt.
The discovery triggered tension and outrage in the area, following which police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the accused Krishna Mondal is currently absconding.
Police have detained the parents of the accused for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
