A woman was allegedly murdered in Boitamari area of Assam’s Bongaigaon district, police said on February 17. The incident occurred at Raghunandanpur locality under Boitamari police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Bijuli Nath. Her body was recovered in a blood-soaked condition from her residence. Police suspect that she was attacked with a sharp weapon.
According to preliminary investigation, the accused, identified as her husband Samarjit Nath, allegedly killed her following a domestic dispute and later attempted to take his own life.
Samarjit Nath was rescued and admitted to a hospital in critical condition. Further details about his medical status were awaited at the time of filing this report.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The exact motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained, though officials indicated that a marital dispute may have triggered the violence.
Meanwhile, Bijuli Nath’s father has demanded strict punishment, including capital punishment, for the accused.
