A woman was seriously injured after her hand was allegedly severed during a violent attack following a dispute with neighbours in Sribhumi district, police said on March 9.
The victim, identified as Asma Begum, was reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon at Golaghat village under Nilambazar Police Station late on Sunday night.
According to preliminary information, the incident stemmed from a dispute between the family of Asma Begum and that of a neighbour, Mira Hussain. The argument allegedly escalated during the night, when the accused attacked Begum with a sharp weapon, severing her hand.
The incident drew a large crowd from the locality, with many residents gathering at the spot soon after the attack.
Angry locals allegedly vandalised the house and shop belonging to the accused in protest against the incident, witnesses said.
Police later reached the area to bring the situation under control. Officials said that the accused involved in the attack has not yet been apprehended.
