The political atmosphere in Assam’s Tinsukia district turned heated once again as protests intensified over the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill 2026.
In protest against the stand taken by the Congress and the INDIA alliance against the proposed legislation, the NDA organised a women-led demonstration in Tinsukia on Sunday.
The protest programme, described as a “Mahila Akrosh” campaign, was organised by the Tinsukia BJP Mahila Morcha at Thana Chariali. A large number of women workers participated in the event and raised slogans against the Congress party and its alliance partners.
Protesters said women’s rights should not be obstructed for political interests. They strongly demanded that women across the country should be granted a 33 per cent reservation in the legislature.
The demonstrators also criticised the Congress and its allies, alleging that they were following a double standard on the issue of women’s rights and political empowerment.
With the protest, the issue of women’s reservation has once again taken a sharp political turn in Tinsukia, highlighting growing divisions between rival political camps over the proposed bill.
