BJP leader Nilima Devi on May 26, expressed support for women’s reservation, saying it would encourage greater participation of women in politics and help them grow in public life.
Speaking to reporters, Devi said the implementation of the women’s reservation law would increase the representation of women in legislative bodies.
“Today there are only a few women representatives. If reservation is implemented, more women will come into politics and it will help women progress,” she said.
She also welcomed the support extended by Congress leaders in Assam to the women’s reservation law despite opposition to the legislation at the national level.
“This is not only good for the BJP, but for all political parties and for the country,” Devi said.
Referring to the political scenario in Assam, the BJP leader said women currently hold very few seats in the state and stressed the need to improve both representation and electoral success of women candidates.
