In the aftermath of a dramatic confrontation at Haseela Beel, where an agitated mob hurled mud and bottles at his convoy, Congress MP Rakibul Hussain lashed out at the ruling BJP, alleging a calculated effort to obstruct relief efforts for evicted families.
Addressing a press conference, Hussain stated, “Our entry into Haseela Beel was blocked to such an extent that even providing food aid to the evicted families was hindered. Yet, a few people did accept help. But why are these families being stopped from receiving basic assistance?”
The Congress leader directly accused the BJP of spreading misinformation. “I’ve been told that if we, the Congress, help the evicted, then ‘they’—meaning the BJP—will withdraw their support. Who is spreading this? It’s the BJP. And the locals must realize this.”
Expressing concern for the affected families, Hussain appealed, “I urge the evicted families—try to protect your homes for the next six months. Everything else will follow. We already know the pattern of upcoming evictions.”
In a pointed remark, Hussain said, “You can trust a snake, but not him,” indirectly referring to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “There’s no 'third person' behind all this—there’s only one person. I’m saying this on record.”
He further alleged that political narratives were being twisted. “If I visit an area facing eviction, BJP blames me for triggering it. If I don’t visit, they still blame me. It’s clear who’s orchestrating this. He’s so obsessed with Gaurav Gogoi that even in his sleep, he chants his name.”
Hussain concluded by cautioning the press about potential distortion of his statements, claiming, “I know the news will be manipulated to suit his agenda.”
