In a significant win reflecting grassroots empowerment, Nyamlik Hakhun, a young and qualified woman from the Tangsa Hakhun community, has secured victory in the Assam Panchayat elections with the results announced today, May 11.
Contesting from Ward No. 3 under Hamukjaan Gaon Panchayat in the 83rd Margherita constituency, Hakhun polled 273 votes, defeating her nearest rival from Raijor Dal, who managed to secure only 157 votes. Out of a total of 543 registered voters in the ward, Hakhun's clear lead signals strong local backing.
Residing at Malu Gaon in Ledo — home to 105 Tangsa Hakhun families — Nyamlik's win carries symbolic weight for her community, often underrepresented in local governance. She is the daughter of Tehon Hakhun, the current village pradhan of Malu Gaon, and her election marks not just a personal triumph but a step forward for the political visibility of the Tangsa Hakhun people in Assam’s Panchayat structure.
