The Youth Congress on January 27, staged a protest in Sribhumi district, alleging arbitrary and unethical deletion of names from the voters’ list during the ongoing Special Revision (SR) process.
As part of the protest, Youth Congress workers gheraoed the District Commissioner’s office, demanding immediate intervention. State Youth Congress president Zubair Anam lay down on the road during the demonstration to protest against the alleged irregularities.
The protesters demanded that the District Commissioner come down from his office and hold discussions with them. They accused the Sribhumi District Election Officer of being responsible for deleting voters’ names without following due procedure.
The agitation was led by Youth Congress State Secretary Zubair Anam and Youth Congress Central Secretary Mithendra Singh, with workers staging a demonstration in front of the Sribhumi District Election Office.
To prevent escalation, the district administration deployed a large police force along with paramilitary personnel and erected barricades around the office to stop protesters from entering.
After being denied entry, the protesters sat in a dharna outside the office, raising slogans against the BJP-led government and the district administration.
Later, the administration allowed a delegation of ten Youth Congress members to meet the District Commissioner.
Youth Congress leaders alleged that the SR process was being misused and demanded corrective measures to ensure a transparent and fair voter list revision process.
