Youth held with 387 litres of suspected illegal thinner in Assam's Makum

Police seized a large quantity of suspected illegally transported thinner and detained a youth during an operation near Betjan Bypass Chariali in Makum on the afternoon of May 30.
According to police, a Maruti Eeco vehicle bearing registration number AS-23-AB-1242 was intercepted near Betjan Chariali. During the search, officers recovered approximately 387 litres of thinner packed in 15 cartons from the vehicle.
The detained person has been identified as Surajit Gogoi, a resident of Matapung village in Barekuri.
Police said the consignment was allegedly being transported from Barekuri to Arunachal Pradesh. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Barekuri Police launched an operation and chased the vehicle before successfully intercepting it at Betjan Chariali with assistance from Makum Police.
Investigators suspect that the thinner was being transported illegally. The seized consignment, along with the vehicle and the detained youth, was taken to Barekuri Police Station for further investigation.
Police have launched a probe to ascertain the source, destination and intended use of the seized thinner.
