The political atmosphere in Nagaon has intensified ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election, with controversial ‘Bagh Sena’ leader Yunus Tamuli filing his nomination papers as an independent candidate for the seat.
Speaking to reporters before filing his nomination, Tamuli launched a sharp attack on both the ruling and Opposition parties, saying his primary objective was to raise issues concerning the rights of ordinary people and address local problems.
Tamuli said he had not entered the electoral contest by relying on any major political party and alleged that established parties had failed to resolve the genuine problems faced by the people of Nagaon.
“I have not come to deceive the people by taking shelter under any major political party. The major political parties have failed to solve the real problems of the people of Nagaon. Therefore, I have come forward as an independent candidate to fight on behalf of the people,” Tamuli said.
He further said his political fight was against injustice and exploitation, claiming that Bagh Sena had consistently raised issues concerning public rights.
Tamuli appealed to the people of Nagaon for their support and said that if given an opportunity, he would become a strong voice for the people of the constituency in the legislature.
With Tamuli entering the fray as an independent candidate, his candidature is expected to add another dimension to the electoral contest. The extent to which his candidature influences the vote equation in the Nagaon by-election will become clearer as the campaign progresses.
