Coronavirus: 15 People Kept in Home Isolation in Nagaland

Guwahati, February 18, 2020:

At least 15 people in Nagaland have been kept in home isolation under suspicion of being infected by the novel coronavirus.

As per the Nagaland Medical Department, 75 persons were screened on suspicion while fifteen have been kept in isolation till February 13. No confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far.

The medical department is taking all the precautionary measures to prevent its outbreak in Nagaland. Deputy Cief Medical Officer, Kohima, Dr Hoito Sema said, “The screening of the virus will go on and as of now the basic importance is creating community awareness about the issue. Basic measures against the virus should also be taken which is washing hands frequently, maintaining proper hygiene and also avoiding the consumption of uncooked meat or animal products as a whole. The visit or travel to international locations should be maintained under the state or the country’s advisory.”

People who are coming from outside Nagaland are being screened too and people having even one symptom of the virus infection are immediately taken for further medical examinations. The primary symptoms are fever, cough or difficulty in breathing and anyone found having these are referred to their concerned district hospital.

The persons under observation are examined under the criteria given by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The medical department have further taken steps to create awareness among the people so that any people who have a travel history of visiting China in the recent day declare it on their own so that they can be checked on time.

Earlier in a notification, the government of Nagaland, through the Directorate of Family Welfare & Health, Kohima, stated, “In view of the outbreak of 2019nCoV (novel coronavirus), all the RRTs are informed to be on alert as it has already spread to many countries including Nepal and is of public health concern.”

It further stated, “…you are requested to ensure adequate readiness for immediate detection, intervention and mitigation as and when the need arise.”

It may be mentioned here that the Nagaland Health Mission (NHM) has issued another notification to the hospitals, requesting to ensure adequate readiness for immediate detection of coronavirus, intervention and mitigation.
