IMPHAL: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials in a huge operation have seized more than 43 kg of gold biscuits valued at around Rs.21 crore in Imphal, Manipur.

According to reports, officials detained a car carrying two persons in the city on Tuesday after receiving information.

Officials said gold biscuits were discovered hidden inside three distinct cavities specially constructed inside the vehicle after questioning them and a thorough examination.

The officials reportedly spent roughly 18 hours to remove all 260 pieces of foreign-made gold biscuits from the cavities.

According to reports, an identical car has been used for smuggling in the past also.

Even with the coronavirus-induced lockdown, gold smuggling continues unabated in Manipur (India-Myanmar border).

The Guwahati zonal unit Myanmar sector has seized over 67 kilogramme of gold worth over Rs 33 crore in the past three months. 55 kilogrammes of gold have been seized in June till now.
