MANIPUR: GOVERNOR DONATES ONE DAY SALARY FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

Governor of Manipur Dr. Najma Heptulla has announced donation of her one day salary to the Governor Relief fund for flood victims.

Speaking to media at a Press Conference held at Raj Bhavan, the Governor said that all staff of Raj Bhavan will also donate their one day salary to the relief fund.

She further appealed to the people of the state who can afford whatever they can to donate and contribute items to help flood affected people who are in need.

Most of the people in the flood-stricken areas have suffering a lot and there is possibilities outbreak of diseases even after the flood situation improved, she said and stressed the need for taking up appropriate measures by the concerned authorities of the state government to cope with the situation.

She said that she had a discussion with the Chief Minister on precautionary measures that can be taken up by the government for the flood affected people. Centre government has also aware of the situation. She had even spoken to DoNER minister in this regard, she added.

The Governor stressed the need to have a proper plan to reduce harm cause by natural calamities in the state. The government must find a permanent solution so that to avoid flood in future. “Planting trees as much as we can could be a solution to the flooding problems in the state.

Afforestation is a must all over the state,” she suggested. She emphasized on the need for putting in place a proper drainage system.

The Governor said that for the Raj Bhavan, it will not celebrate Id-ul-Fitr tomorrow considering the grim situation that affected large number of people. However, she announced that they have decided to organized on the 19th of June for the Raj Bhavan and will invite the people, the Governor asserted.
