NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asserting that the COVID-19 pandemic is the world's worst epidemic in decades he called for increased efforts to fight the deadly virus.

PM briefed on the occasion of Virtual Vesak Global Celebrations on Buddha Purnima.

“COVID-19 is the worst catastrophe mankind has faced in decades; we have not seen a pandemic like this for a century. Our planet will not be the same after COVID-19, we will remember the events in the future as either pre or post-Covid," said the prime minister.

PM Modi then paid tribute to the frontline healthcare staff--doctors and nurses, who risk their life every day to help those in need.

He also expressed his sorrow for all those who died of COVID-19 complications.

The prime minister reassured the citizens of India that his government is fighting the pandemic aggressively and remains committed to their health and protection.

"We have the vaccine that is necessary to save lives and defeat the pandemic” adding this PM Modi said, “India is proud of our scientists who worked on the COVID-19 vaccines."
