Sindhupalchok, 65 kilometres from Kathmandu was the worst-affected district due to the heavy rainfall along with the Melamchi river flooding.

Nepal Police, the Army and the Armed Police Force were all involved in rescue and relief efforts.

According to officials, extreme rainfall caused rivers to overflow resulting in severe destruction. Since Monday evening, rain has been falling steadily in central Nepal's Bagmati and Lamjing provinces.
