GUWAHATI: The Vigilance cell on Wednesday raided two residence of civil servant Saibar Rahman in Hatigaon and Beltola area post his arrest. During the raid, his wife Minakshi Rahman accompanied the team.

After a complaint was filed in Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell, during investigation Rahman was found in possession of disproportionate assets despite being a public servant, which is grounds for criminal misconduct for owning assets that are out of sync with his legal sources of income.

Minakshi Rahman, the wife former ADC of Dhubri, Saibar Rahman, was the candidate that All India United Democratic Party selected to contest for Sarukhetri constituency of Barpeta district during the Assam Assembly Polls 2021.

The 35 year-old lady had declared her total asset as Rs 8.5 crore in her affidavit. This includes Rs. 1.9 crore of movable asset and Rs.6.7 crore immovable assets.

Rahman had contested the Assam Assembly Polls 2021 but lost to Congress’s Jakir Hussain Sikdar.

AIUDF’s General Press Secretary Haidar Hussain Bora while taking to InsideNE said, “Saibar Rahman’s  wife had contested the polls from AIUDF. But as her husband was a public servant, he was no way related to the party."
