With an eye on the 2026 Assembly elections, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has sharpened its political pitch by foregrounding economic distress and regional autonomy as central campaign themes. Party president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, while unveiling the party’s manifesto and vision document, asserted that safeguarding Assam’s political future must remain the foremost priority in the electoral discourse.
Addressing the media, Gogoi highlighted what he described as the growing economic strain on the common people of Assam. He alleged that the state’s current financial trajectory reflects a widening gap between promises and ground realities, with citizens increasingly bearing the burden of economic challenges.
“The main issue here is to protect the political future of Assam,” Gogoi stated, emphasizing that the aspirations for a self-reliant state have not materialized as envisioned. He pointed to the persistence of a deficit budget, arguing that it has pushed Assam into a position of heightened dependence on the Central Government.
The AJP chief further underlined that his party has developed a comprehensive roadmap aimed at strengthening Assam’s internal production capabilities. According to him, the vision document lays out sector-specific strategies designed to harness local resources, boost economic self-sufficiency, and reduce external dependency.
Framing the upcoming elections as a decisive moment, Gogoi called for a shift in governance priorities, urging voters to reflect on issues of economic resilience, fiscal stability, and regional empowerment. The AJP’s manifesto, he said, seeks to offer an alternative model focused on sustainable development rooted in Assam’s own strengths.
As political activity intensifies ahead of the 2026 polls, AJP’s renewed emphasis on economic nationalism and state-centric growth is expected to add a sharper edge to the evolving electoral narrative in Assam.
