Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, April 4 criticised Raijor Dal leader and MLA Akhil Gogoi, stating that the latter “seriously needs treatment”, questioning the consistency of his public conduct and statements.
Speaking to reporters, CM Sarma said that despite sharp political differences, Gogoi has maintained personal communication with him. “Akhil Gogoi calls me between 10–15 times in a month. The day before his alliance with the Congress, he spoke to both me and Pijush Hazarika for around 10 minutes each. He spoke about life’s joys and sorrows, and also about politics,” the Chief Minister said.
CM Sarma alleged that Gogoi’s public behaviour is unpredictable. “He is not sure what he speaks or how he reacts in an instant. If he laughs on a live broadcast, the next moment he may cry, and then immediately begin making harsh allegations against his opponents,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing political contestation in the state, particularly following recent realignments involving opposition parties. CM Sarma did not elaborate further on the context of his comments but maintained that his assessment was based on repeated interactions with the Raijor Dal leader.
There has been no immediate response from Akhil Gogoi to the Chief Minister’s remarks.
