Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 27 exuded confidence of a decisive victory for the BJP in the 2026 Assembly elections, asserting that electoral outcomes are driven by public sentiment rather than predefined targets.
“Targets are set in cricket. There is no target in politics. People are going to give us a thumping majority,” Sarma said while addressing the media during his campaign in Lakhimpur.
Responding to a question on Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi, the Chief Minister said infiltration remains a key issue but stressed that the BJP is fully prepared for the April 9 polls.
“Infiltration is a major issue. But we are ready for the 9th April election. I say and do whatever I have to. The people are excited to bring BJP back to power,” he said.
Sarma further downplayed the need to foreground additional issues during the campaign, maintaining that the party’s vision document would outline its commitments for the next term.
“There is no need to bring in major issues. I will win the election. Our manifesto will contain whatever we have to do, and we will deliver on that,” he added, reiterating confidence in securing another mandate.
