As Assam gears up for Assembly elections on April 9, BJP candidate from the Guwahati Central constituency Vijay Gupta asserted that Gen Z voters are backing his party, claiming that young people are aware of which political formation works “for the nation, the people, and the workers.”
Amid the ongoing campaign, young voters in the state outlined their expectations from contesting parties, highlighting employment and education as key concerns.
Diana Das, a student, said government initiatives such as Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu have been beneficial, particularly for female students. She noted that many girls are receiving support under the Nijut Moina scheme but emphasised that easier access to jobs remains a major expectation from the government.
Another student, Raktim Kamal Bharadwaj, pointed to gaps in higher education infrastructure, stating that institutions face shortages of classrooms, faculty members, and departments. He urged the government to address these issues and introduce new departments in colleges to improve academic opportunities.
The voices of Gen Z voters are increasingly shaping the electoral discourse in Assam, with a clear focus on employment generation, education reforms, and effective implementation of welfare schemes.
