With the Assam Assembly elections approaching, the campaign has intensified across the state, with leaders from outside joining the electoral fray.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on March 28 addressed a massive rally at Haraphuta under the No. 1 Gossaigaon constituency.
The rally was jointly organised by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Jai Bharat Party, which have fielded a joint candidate, F. Phedrickson Hasda, for the seat. Soren arrived by helicopter and campaigned in favour of the alliance nominee, expressing confidence in their victory.
Addressing the gathering, Soren said the upcoming elections have energised both ruling and opposition parties, with leaders from different states actively participating, highlighting the growing political significance of the region.
Two Jharkhand legislators — Taj Uddin Raja and former minister Louis Marandi — were also present and appealed to voters to support the alliance candidate. The joint campaign by JMM and Jai Bharat Party is seen as adding momentum to the contest in Gossaigaon.
Speaking to the media, Soren said, “We will see what the results of the Assam Assembly elections will be later. First, let the elections take place. We have already entered the battle.”
It may be noted that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has fielded candidates in 21 constituencies in the Assam Assembly elections.
